The number of drug overdoses in Regina in 2020 has reached triple digits.
In a media release Wednesday, the Regina Police Service said it has heard about 100 overdoses in the city since Jan. 1. Officers have responded to 56 of those and have administered Naloxone 18 times.
Five people have died due to drug overdoses and four other deaths are under investigation.
Police say street drugs — most notably fentanyl — are to blame.
“Anyone who is an active user of illicit fentanyl or fentanyl analogs is in danger,” the police media release said. “Even if people are not making good choices for themselves, others around them should be aware of the higher-than-usual potential for drug overdose and have a safety plan.”
Police stressed the importance of calling 911 if there’s an overdose. As well, people can get Naloxone kits; more information is available here.
Anyone with information about the overdoses is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
