The Regina Police Service is investigating after a number of businesses in Regina were defrauded.
In a media release, police say “multiple” vehicle accessory businesses and construction businesses have been the victims of fraud.
According to police, suspects are calling, texting or emailing businesses and buying items costing thousands of dollars. The suspects then give credit card information to the businesses to pay for the purchases.
“By the time the business is notified that the credit card and identification used to make the purchase was fraudulent, the items have already been picked up from the store,” the media release said.
Police are encouraging businesses to ask to see the buyer’s credit card and photo ID when the items are picked up.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a similar scheme is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500.
