Kids have lots of questions and Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili is ready to answer them.
On Monday, he’ll be holding a special Facebook Live and YouTube-streamed press conference in which he’ll be answering kids’ questions for 45 minutes about the COVID-19 crisis.
Meili told 650 CKOM that he knows kids have questions and a role to play with COVID-19.
“This is a scary time, there’s lots going on and it could be really worrying,” he said. “Their lives have been disrupted in lots of ways. They’re not in school, they’re not in daycare, they’re not able to go to their activities (and) they’re not able to visit their friends. It’s tough on them.”
The online press conference is to begin at 10 a.m. Monday.
On Sunday, Meili took to Twitter to ask if kids had questions before the Monday press conference.
Tomorrow at 10, I'll be holding a press conference just for kids, where we'll take questions from Sask children and youth about coronavirus & what we can all do about it.
If you're a kid, or know a kid who has questions, please reply and we'll get to as many as we can. pic.twitter.com/RBMn1OEV19

Meili, a doctor himself, said although kids may not be as affected by COVID-19, that doesn’t mean that’s where their role ends.
“(Kids) can still be part of spreading it, so that means they can be part of avoiding spreading the virus as well,” he said.
“(The press conference is) mostly about giving kids a sense of safety and connectedness and to know what adults are doing to address COVID-19 but also letting them know what their place is as well.”
Meili said the idea originally came from the prime minister of Norway, who held a similar availability overseas. Meili also felt there was a need for it after speaking to others in the community.
Meili is currently in self-isolation after his wife, Mahli Brindamour, woke up Friday morning with a cough. He said they are still awaiting her test results, but he hasn’t exhibited any symptoms.
