12:00 – Saskatchewan’s hotels want to play a bigger role helping government during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Jim Bence, CEO of the Saskatchewan Hotel and Hospitality Association, the association has been in talks with the Ministry of Health and Red Cross, and are putting together a plan to be ready if hotels should be needed to serve as makeshift hospitals, homeless shelters, or temporary housing for healthcare workers, similar to measures which have already been enacted in other countries. While hotels in Saskatchewan remain open, Bence says the hospitality industry has taken a major hit due to the restrictions keeping COVID-19 in check, and would be glad to have any extra business during these trying times. Bence joins Gormley to discuss the roles hotels can play in public health.
