Vehicles and semis lined the ditches along Highway 11 south of Saskatoon due to freezing rain early Tuesday.
The Saskatoon Police Service reported just before 6 a.m., that the northbound lanes of the highway near Blackstrap Lake was closed due to icy road conditions and an incident involving a tractor-trailer unit.
RCMP issued an update after 8 a.m. Mounties said northbound traffic was down to one lane, while crews worked to move two transport trucks that had collided and jack knifed. RCMP said 10 to 12 vehicles were also in the ditch, but no one was hurt.
The Dundurn Fire Department issued a warning for drivers to use caution with “extremely slick” conditions between Hanley and Saskatoon.
According to the Highway Hotline, highways in the Saskatoon, Kenaston and Rosthern areas were icy, slippery and wet, and subject to freezing.
Meanwhile, in Saskatoon, police warned about slick road conditions due to the freezing rain.
“Motorists who must travel should allow extra driving time, slow down and allow extra stopping distance when approaching intersections and other vehicles,” the police said in a media release.
