Three more correctional officers at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the facility’s total to five cases.
The Ministry of Corrections confirmed the positive tests in an email Tuesday evening.
The additional COVID-19 cases come after two officers were confirmed to have the virus last week.
No inmates have tested positive thus far.
The ministry noted it’s working with public health officials to trace contacts for the infected officers, and they’re taking “all appropriate actions” to protect staff and offenders.
Specific measures have been implemented to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the correctional centre, including the distribution of personal protective equipment to staff.
Saskatoon Correctional Centre is also undergoing a “disinfectant fogging” process, which involves spraying chemical disinfectants in a mist, as a preventative measure.
