Spring remains on pause for much of Saskatchewan.
Saskatoon and areas north of the city are included in snowfall warnings issued by Environment Canada on Monday morning.
The weather agency is forecasting 10 to 15 centimetres to fall in areas including Prince Albert, Melfort, Nipawin and Hudson Bay, as well as Waskesiu, La Ronge and Pelican Narrows.
“We’re expecting heavy snow today,” meteorologist Brian Luzny said.
“We’ve had a bit of snow overnight, one to two centimetres in places. We expect that to intensify later this morning and start tapering off by the evening.”
The snow won’t be disappearing in time for Easter. The weather agency is forecasting temperatures around 0 C for most of the week, peaking on Friday with a high of 5 C.
Environment Canada also warned of freezing rain in southern areas of the province. Slippery roads were reported in the Swift Current area around 6 a.m.
Environment Canada said the freezing rain should stay west of Moose Jaw, but the warning covers areas north of Regina such as Craik.
