It looks like the PGA Tour will be the first out of the gate for North American leagues to get restarted after shutting down because of COVID-19.
Reports indicate that a mid-June event in Texas to be held with no fans will relaunch the PGA season.
Of course, when it comes to physical distancing, it’ll be a lot easier to accomplish this on a golf course than say a physical contact sport like hockey, football or basketball and even to a certain extent baseball.
Now, is it a good look for the PGA to get out in front of other sports? Of course, UFC’s Dana White is still trying to be the first one back with another crack at an event in May. But I don’t know if PGA commissioner Jay Monahan wants to be in the same sentence or thought as Dana White when it comes to COVID-19.
But it could signal a “coming back” party so to speak for sports. As more jurisdictions start thinking about easing current restrictions, it won’t be a surprise for pro sports to come rushing back to action, albeit without fans in the stands.
