The City of Saskatoon is making some changes in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press release Monday, the city said it is adjusting its traffic signals so pedestrians won’t have to press activation buttons to cross Saskatoon’s streets.
Currently, 59 high-use crossings have already been adjusted, with 200 expected to be changed this week. The city says vehicles may notice a “slightly longer” wait due to the changes.
Signage will also be installed to remind citizens not to press the activation buttons.
Cranberry Flats Conservation Area is closed until further notice in an attempt to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people.
Citizens are also being asked to maintain physical distancing on sidewalks. If they are approaching others, they are being asked by the city to use boulevards or parking lanes, if it is safe to do so.
Directional signage is also asked to be followed when on bridge pathways or at city pedestrian crossings. The city is also asking people to wear bright colours, so you can be seen by others easily.
City landfill hours will also change to summer hours, effective next Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is to help reduce cross-contamination.
The city also is reminding residents that there are no cash transactions at the landfill, with only card payments accepted. Those with commercial accounts will also have the option of direct invoicing.
