Regina residents looking for bargains at garage and yard sales won’t find any for a while.
The City of Regina issued a reminder Wednesday that such events can’t be held due to public health orders put in place due to COVID-19.
“The most important thing right now is to continue to prioritize the effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and remind residents that this is a serious situation,” Mayor Michael Fougere said in a media release.
“We must ensure we maintain social distancing to protect the health and safety of all Regina residents.”
Public health officials have said residents are to practise physical distancing and to limit contact with people from outside their homes to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
The city also asked residents to refrain from taking clothing to donation bins run by charitable organizations during the pandemic.
Many of the charities currently aren’t able to accept donations or to empty the bins. As a result, a number of the bins around the city are overflowing and clothing is being scattered around.
The city is urging people to hold onto their items for now or to call charities ahead of time to see if they’re accepting donations.
