The debate over the CFL getting federal funding continues. There was mixed reaction during the Green Zone on Wednesday.
Business owners who don’t fall under the federal relief fund say if their business doesn’t count, why should the CFL?
Fans were on both sides, either saying there are more important things to spend our money on or, in the greater majority, heck yes. They would rather see their tax money go to the CFL than the other stuff the prime minister is forking over billions of dollars for.
But here is the line: Does the survival of the CFL matter? If no funding means no CFL, is that something we’re comfortable living with?
I certainly hope not. I’ve been to a dozen Grey Cups and it’s where you truly see the great Canadian party. There is Canada Day and then there is the Grey Cup. They’re uniquely, unequivocally … Canadian.
It may be a sport, but it’s part of our culture, which is always something worth saving.
