NHLers Brendan Leipsic and Jack Rodewald and the other bros on their chat group are being shamed, and so they should.
Their comments about women, including the wife of Tanner Pearson and the girlfriend of Connor McDavid, are rude and you’d hope a 25-year old would know better.
However, let’s not go around pretending we’re all perfect human beings either — especially when we were in our early 20s.
And let’s not pretend they’re the only hockey players who have ever spoken that way. Oh, and don’t you dare just start spewing things about ‘hockey culture.’ Young men in football, basketball, music, or anything else have some learning to do about life and how harmful and damaging comments like these are.
What Leipsic and Rodewald have done, other than ruin their own reputations, is hopefully allow all of us to look in the mirror.
We can all be better. Here’s hoping these two and the other guys in their chat realize this.
Oh, and it’s another great reminder about social media. What you believe to be private rarely is.
