A special weather statement has been issued for the southeastern area of the province calling for up to 10 centimetres of snow in some areas.
Environment Canada issued the alert Friday afternoon for areas around Carlyle, Oxbow, Carnduff, Bienfait, Stoughton, Moosomin, Grenfell, Kipling, Wawota, Yorkton, Melville and Esterhazy.
According to the statement, a system moving through the southern part of the province is bringing rain and scattered thunderstorms. It’s expected the rain will turn to snow along the northern part of the system Friday evening and overnight.
The system is expected to leave the region Saturday morning.
Environment Canada expected between five and 10 centimetres of snow to fall from Yorkton south to Oxbow and east through Brandon. There may be more snow in areas with higher terrain.
