Residential street sweeping is to start in Regina on Monday and the city is asking the public for help to keep the roads clear of vehicles.
The city’s director of roadways and transportation, Chris Warren, said with more people staying home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, crews are expecting more vehicles parked on the streets.
There are many ways residents can help, including checking the city’s website for when crews will be in their area and watching for large orange signs that will be placed at neighbourhood entrances.
“We’re asking for our community’s assistance in doing their best to understand the day that we’ll be in their neighbourhood and park their vehicles or remove their vehicles from the street,” Warren said.
As well, the city is hoping residents will offer parking space to their neighbours.
“If you have a driveway (and) you can afford some of your space on those days that we’ll be in your area, we would appreciate our public’s assistance in that,” Warren said.
But Warren noted the city won’t be enforcing no-parking regulations on the residential streets.
“If we encounter a parked car during the residential sweep, our crews would typically go around the parked car,” he said.
Crews will be working Monday to Friday in two shifts, from 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The work is expected to take six weeks.
Warren asked the public to slow down and give workers space.
