The City of Regina has decided to ramp up its mosquito control program.
In a media release, the city announced its crews were to start the program Monday.
Initially, the city said it planned only to monitor for species and volumes of the pests before deciding whether to follow through with the program in 2020. That approach was adopted because of financial issues the city faced due to COVID-19.
The results from that monitoring suggested more work had to be done.
“Monitoring has indicated that treatment will be required in 2020, and we will now move forward with providing a nuisance control mosquito program within the city,” the media release said.
Crews are to start treating bodies of water around the city immediately.
Residents are asked to dump out anything on their property that contains standing water to help eliminate mosquito larvae.
