A Regina-based charity is eager to help children and youths cope during the battle against COVID-19.
Caring Hearts has introduced an online program called “Strategies for Thriving During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” It features resources geared to help children and youth increase their level of hope and build self-esteem.
The program, which was launched Monday, is aimed to help support parents, caregivers and their families during the pandemic.
“It’s not always easy to find resources to help children and youth navigate the uncertainty of the pandemic,” Cindy Rice, the youth programming consultant with Caring Hearts, said in a media release.
Caring Hearts has created age-specific resources for kids that include activities to address communication, family, mental health, mindfulness, resilience and gratitude. The eight-week program will feature weekly resources for children and youth in three age groups — six to nine, nine to 12, and 12 to 16.
“I know it’s tough right now,” said Rice, a retired educator. “Every day is filled with uncertainty, so it’s important that kids know they are not alone.
“Kids are naturally resilient, so this program is a good way to help them focus and stay positive.”
Information is to be posted on the Caring Hearts website and shared on the charity’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. The material will be released weekly and archived on the charity’s website.
The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation Emergency Response Fund is financially supporting the initiative.
