Two men are facing charges after a Regina Police Service investigation into the illegal manufacture of firearms and computer-machined parts for guns.
Two youths also were charged with mischief in the case, which police said had “alarming implications for public safety.”
In a media release Monday, police said officers responded Friday to a report of a gun being fired in the 1000 block of Edgar Street. Police say a dispute between two groups started on social media and resulted in a confrontation at a suite on Edgar.
After two male youths allegedly used a 2×4 to damage the door of the suite, a car pulled up and someone inside the vehicle fired a gun at the suite.
The suspects took off, but police identified the suspects and where they could be found.
Officers went to a house on Fines Drive and saw one of the suspects, who subsequently was arrested after a high-risk traffic stop. In his vehicle, officers found a box containing gun parts, ammunition and other items.
Police got a second man to leave the house on Fines and seized another firearm part from him. Four more people exited the house and two teenaged boys — a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old — were arrested and charged with mischief for damaging the door of the suite on Edgar.
A search of the house on Fines as well as four vehicles turned up more evidence of gun manufacturing.
A 37-year-old man from Fillmore and a 37-year-old man from Regina were charged with a variety of weapons-related offences. They made their first court appearances Monday.
