Players fighting over money with owners is just what we need right now.
If there is any sense of normalcy to be had without sports, it is the age-old fight between greedy millionaire or billionaire owners and their millionaire employees.
Ah. All is right in the world when I read the headline that, before a potential return to baseball, owners and players will bicker over money.
In one corner, you have the people with some of the deepest pockets in the world saying their business plan is completely shot without fans. Their ask is a 50/50 revenue split.
In the other corner, you have super-agent Scott Boras, decrying that there is no chance the players are giving up anything more than 30 to 40 per cent of their salaries, despite the fact they may only play 50 per cent of the games.
There’s no better way to endear yourself to a fan base of millions who have either lost someone to COVID-19, been infected themselves or lost their jobs.
I’m not picking a side here, players or owners. There is a deal to be worked out. Do it, because we don’t really want to hear about only making 30 per cent of your $5-million deal.
