A recent string of break-ins has prompted the Regina Police Service to remind residents to lock their garages and to remove garage door openers from their vehicles.
According to the police, there were 28 reports of breaking and entering in the city between April 28 and May 5. The majority of the break-ins — 16 — were to garages, while eight were to houses, three were to compounds and one was to a business.
Police said many of the break-ins were the result of unlocked or open garage doors. Others resulted from garage door openers that were visible in the victims’ vehicles, allowing thieves who broke into the cars to gain access to the garages.
The police recommended people should remove garage door openers from cars that are parked on streets or driveways. Residents also were encouraged to lock their garage doors, including the main doors as well as doors that lead directly into houses.
Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or, in an emergency, 911.
