Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for areas across southwestern Saskatchewan on Wednesday afternoon.
The watch is in effect for areas around Assiniboia, Gravelbourg, Coronach, Kindersley, Rosetown, Biggar, Wilkie, Macklin, Leader, Gull Lake, Moose Jaw, Pense, Central Butte, Craik, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie, Cypress Hills, Swift Current, Herbert, Cabri, Kyle and Lucky Lake.
The Environment Canada alert said the storms could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
“A low pressure system over eastern Montana moving northward into southern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta is triggering thunderstorms this afternoon,” the alert said. “Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe this afternoon and persist into the evening.”
