La Loche RCMP has laid charges on three people for alleged bootlegging in the community, which stopped liquor sales on May 9, for two weeks, to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Wednesday, members of the La Loche RCMP were stationed on Highway 155, just south of town limits and north of the Provincial Check Stop to locate impaired drivers and prevent illegal possession of drugs and alcohol.
Officers received information that some residents were travelling south from La Loche to purchase alcohol, then transporting it to the community for resale.
Further information stated that a 24-pack of beer resold for more than $200, according to an RCMP release.
A number of vehicles were stopped, with officers conducting searches “if there was enough evidence for officers to investigate further,” the Thursday release states.
Officers seized a large amount of liquor, coolers and beer from five vehicles.
The total haul included 534 cans of beer, 24 bottles of beer, 248 cans of various coolers, a 4 L box of Royal Red, three 1.75 L bottles of hard alcohol and six 750 ml bottles of hard alcohol.
Charges were laid against three people under Sec. 138(1) of the Saskatchewan Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act.
