The Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have started an investigation into the death of a man whose body was found in Wascana Lake on Thursday evening.
According to police, officers were called just after 7:30 p.m., to the area of the bandshell on the north side of the lake.
They were told a man had been seen swimming in the lake, but witnesses had lost sight of him. Officers subsequently found some clothing and a cellphone on the shore.
A search was conducted with the assistance of the Regina Fire Department, the Provincial Capital Commission, the Regina Police Service Underwater Investigation and Recovery team (UIRT) and EMS. That resulted in the discovery of an unresponsive man under the water.
He was pronounced dead just before 9:20 p.m.
