The Regina Police Service is ramping up enforcement on dangerous driving in the city.
The program is called Project SPEED (Spring Public Education and Enforcement Drive).
During the month of June, members of the traffic safety unit, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) and patrol members will be cracking down on drivers for all traffic offences. However, they’ll mostly be focused on speeding, stunting and street racing, loud vehicles and illegal vehicle modifications.
Sgt. Mark Verbeek, who’s in charge of the traffic safety unit, said there have been more traffic complaints than usual in the past few weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our members have noticed it and residents have noticed it. Excessive speed and excessive vehicle noise on our roadways is problematic and it’s dangerous. The Regina Police Service is committed to sending a strong message to drivers who are not following laws and who are compromising public safety while behind the wheel,” he said in a news release.
Officers also will be increasing education on the rules of the road in an effort to cut down on dangerous driving in the city.
