Canadian running back Chuba Hubbard and his head coach at Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy taught everyone a valuable lesson on Monday.
Hubbard started the day with a threat to boycott his team after his coach was wearing a One America News Network shirt in a fishing photo.
OAN’s coverage over the Black Lives Matter protests has been highly criticized. Enter Gundy and his T-shirt. To many, he might as well have been wearing a MAGA hat. And when you’re the head coach of many minority athletes, it’s a poor look.
But worth a boycott? Some thought he should be fired!
However, cooler heads prevailed. Both Gundy, for the choice of weekend attire, and Hubbard for airing his grievance on twitter instead of, you know, picking up the phone and talking it out with the coach.
That conversation did take place and both men were on a video acknowledging their mistakes and willingness to move forward.
Who would have thought? Two men being able to talk it out, shake hands and move on together despite the likelihood of having some political differences.
Maybe there is hope for more civility in political discourse. Although I’m sure Donald Trump will ruin that dream the next time he opens his mouth.
