I found something I haven’t missed when it comes to sports.
Video review.
The Premier League in England kicked off and the Hawk-Eye goal technology failed. The post and players were in the way and the cameras set up around the stadium that factor in to computers being able to decipher if the ball crosses the line missed the goal.
Ooops.
And yes, the fans were outraged … at a computer.
Video review or goal technology or any other form of delaying sports to decide the right call is becoming more and more annoying than it is a benefit to the game.
The NFL has done away with pass interference, allowing officials to make another egregious error in a championship game again, believing that result is better than every single game being delayed by reviews for calls that are rarely overturned.
Sports is returning and so to is video review. It’s not perfect. It’s at times annoying. But the reality is, it’s not going away. We can only hope like in the NFL, we’ll have less of it.
