Regina home builder takes home top prize

Two homes in Regina are among the best in the country.

Munro Homes, a family owned and operated custom home building business, was named the recipient of two prestigious awards in the detached-homes category during the Canadian Home Builders’ Association 2020 National Awards for Housing Excellence.

The homes that won two of the top prizes are located in Regina.

“The Pratt” show home, located on Chuka Drive in the Creeks neighbourhood, and a custom-built house on Quinn Drive backing onto Wascana Park were the homes recognized for building excellence.

Selected from among 700 entries and 200,000 new homes submitted for consideration for the awards, the two Munro-built homes beat out homes from major Canadian cities.

“We have always known that Regina home builders are building great homes,” said Colin Chorneyko, president of Munro Homes.

“When you’re compared to the biggest centres like Toronto and Vancouver and it is confirmed in this way and the rest of the country gets to see it, it’s even better.”

For 35 years, Munro Homes has been building homes for people in Regina. Now, they’re said to be one of Canada’s best homebuilders.

“Our team along with our trade partners work very hard to provide our community and clients with an exceptional home building experience,” Chorneyko said.

Chorneyko says the recognition is significant to him and his entire team.

“To build an award-winning home like this takes a lot of time and effort. From planning the layout to trying to get ahead of the new trends, our team works together to create what we think is a masterpiece,” he said.

“We work very hard on every home we build and to celebrate our accomplishment with our entire team this year makes all the hard work worthwhile,” Chorneyko said.

Stu Niebergall, president and CEO of the Regina and Region Homebuilders’ Association called Munro Homes’ success “an absolutely incredible win.”

“To be as recognized in this way at the national level is no small feat,” Niebergall said. “This house is a good example of the quality and the style of homes that one can get in the marketplace here that you don’t need to travel the world to see.

“In Canada here, we very simply build the best houses of anybody in the world when it comes to the quality of construction and the components that come together. And here in Saskatchewan, I would suggest we build some of the best homes in the country.”

Katherine and Rob Tebb, owners and co-creators of the award-winning home on Quinn Drive say working with Munro Homes was a pleasure.

“Feels more like working with family than working with a contractor,” Rob said. “It was an amazing build from start to finish.”

As a local builder, Chorneyko said his creations are entirely centred around the people he is building homes for.

“We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing clients,” Chorneyko said.
