The Regina Police Service is on the lookout for simulation rifles that recently were stolen from the Regina Armoury.
In a media release Tuesday, police said officers responded on June 16 to the 1600 block of Elphinstone Street for the report of a break and enter and theft from the Department of National Defence building.
Among the items taken were six simulation training rifles, training rounds, training magazines and two sets of binoculars. The last time the property had been seen was in March.
The Regina Police Service’s property crimes unit and the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police are investigating. One of the guns recently was recovered by the Lumsden RCMP.
Regina police say while the guns aren’t operational with real ammunition, they’re “very difficult to distinguish from an active firearm.”
“Police remind the public that displaying any type of firearm in public, imitation or otherwise, will prompt an immediate response from police,” the media release said. “Until police can confirm the ability of the weapon, it will be treated as if it’s a real firearm.”
Anyone with information about the break-in or the stolen property is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Regina Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Arrests near Lumsden
In a media release later in Tuesday, the Lumsden RCMP said officers conducted a traffic stop for a missing tail light on Highway 11 just south of Lumsden on Friday at approximately 11:45 p.m.
After becoming suspicious, officers searched the vehicle and found three guns — including one of the simulation rifles from the armoury — along with 32.5 grams of fentanyl, 8.1 grams of methamphetamine, 4.1 grams of cocaine and $2,100 in Canadian money.
The three occupants of the vehicle — a 36-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman, all from Regina — were arrested. They face drug- and weapons-related charges.
