The Bubba Wallace story should have been one of relief on Tuesday.
The FBI investigation into the noose hanging in Wallace’s garage at Talladega Superspeedway found that the rope had been hanging there since October and there was no hate crime committed. It was a misunderstanding and an unfortunate coincidence that NASCAR’s only Black driver was given garage #4 where the noose-looking garage door pull was hanging.
Thank goodness there is not that strong feeling of hatred out there after Wallace has faced bigoted vitriol for helping get the Confederate flag banned from events.
However, that relief spiralled into frustration as people are calling Wallace a fraud and said he’s out for fame for making up the story.
Then there are those who are saying this is a coverup to save NASCAR’s reputation.
Wallace showed his anger on CNN that his reputation is being dragged through the mud even though it was not Wallace who went to NASCAR in the first place.
So here we are, with a day that could have been about relief and healing turning to more hate, anger and resentment.
