Those who ride the bus in Regina could have to start paying fares again on Thursday.
In a media release, the City of Regina said Regina Transit will continue to provide free service until Thursday — three days later than was originally planned. The collection of fares was initially scheduled to resume on Monday.
The decision is expected to be made Tuesday, when city council will consider The Regina Transit Fare Amendment Bylaw, 2020 during a special council meeting.
Transit fares were to be discussed during Wednesday’s council meeting, but it was adjourned before all items on the agenda — including transit fares — could be addressed.
On March 20, Regina Transit announced it was waiving fares due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Until the collection of fares resumes, riders are asked to keep using the rear doors to both enter and exit buses as Regina Transit continues to practise physical distancing.
