Under Phase 4.2 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, museums across the province are allowed to open to visitors again on Monday.
However, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum won’t be among those throwing open their doors.
The museum in Regina, which closed in March due to COVID-19, announced Friday it plans to stay closed for the time being to ensure safety and cleaning protocols are in place.
The delay also will allow the museum to add to its exhibits and programming. That includes online activities to celebrate National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day.
The date of the museum’s reopening has yet to be determined.
The museum also announced that, after discussions with stakeholders, the T.rex Discovery Centre in Eastend will not open this year.
Because the discovery centre already has a short season — it typically opens in May and closes in September — and because of the pandemic, the decision was made to keep the centre closed until May 2021.
