As summer temperatures return and school officially wraps up, Saskatchewan residents are being encouraged to explore their own province.
Ashley Stone, the director of Tourism Regina, said she hopes to see people getting out and about this season, exploring Saskatchewan cities and attractions.
“I think it’s such a great opportunity for people to rediscover the destination,” Stone said.
“Now that we don’t have to focus on trying to keep up with school activities and can plan our days a little bit more, there’s tons of great opportunities for families to go out.”
With the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan heading into Phase 4.2, Stone said it is a great time to start safely venturing beyond the home.
In the Regina area, Stone recommends families who are looking for some adventure start in Wascana, where attractions will be reopening soon.
Just beyond Regina, places like the Wascana Trails and Over the Hill Orchards offer visitors unique summer experiences.
“You can get a piece of pie and relax on their patio and take in the Lumsden Valley,” Stone said.
Stone also hopes people will consider buying and dining local this summer.
“We went to our first restaurant last Monday and it was open and it was lovely and it was just so nice to have a dining experience,” Stone said.
A number of resources are available online for people interested in learning more about how they can explore Saskatchewan.
A virtual calendar is one such resource for people who are self-isolating, social distancing or even looking for entertainment for their kids.
Stone said the calendar gives an opportunity for people to participate in virtual activities, even visiting some locations like the RCMP Heritage Centre, the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Legislative Building.
Those seeking suggestions for places to try a new locally crafted beverage can find a brewery map online. The map comes equipped with a hop circuit to assist visitors in navigating places to see in Regina’s Warehouse District.
Stone also recommended the Regina Farmers’ Market for a chance to stock up on locally grown produce or local dining establishments like Victoria’s Tavern.
