Outdoor swimming pools at two Saskatchewan provincial parks are set to reopen in time for Canada Day.
The pools at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park and Pike Lake Provincial Park are to open Wednesday.
“Outdoor pools are a huge part of Cypress Hills and Pike Lake,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said in a media release.
“We are excited to announce the reopening of these two pools this summer, and have made some changes to the operating schedules so that we can accommodate as many visitors as possible.”
The pools were closed to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
They may be open, but there will be safety protocols in place at both pools.
According to the government:
- Capacity in the pools will be reduced. As a result, the facilities will use a turnover system that will require all pool users to leave after a set block of time to allow for cleaning and disinfecting. Users can choose to leave, or re-enter the lineup to be admitted again.
- There won’t be any swimming lessons or programming, including lane swimming and special events. That will allow for longer public swim times.
- Physical distancing rules will be in effect. Floor indicators will show visitors where to stand while in line and barriers will protect visitors and pool staff during any necessary contact.
- Specific entry and exit directional signage protocols will be in effect.
- When possible, visitors should enter and exit the facility in their swimming attire to minimize crowding in changerooms.
Patrons should contact the park office prior to their visit to ensure the pool is open.
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park (1-306-662-5411) is to be open Wednesday through Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pike Lake Provincial Park (1-306-933-6966) is to be in operation from Wednesday through Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Construction on the new pool at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park is nearly complete. Its opening date and operating hours will be announced in the future.
