A 22-year-old man is facing charges after an incident in which he ran away from police, broke into a house and hid in a bedroom occupied by two children.
According to the Regina Police Service, it began Sunday at about 2:15 a.m., when officers tried to pull over a vehicle at Fifth Avenue and Wascana Street.
The vehicle took off, but a spike belt deployed forced the vehicle to stop at Elphinstone Street and Seventh Avenue. The driver then got out and ran.
Police saw the man go into a house in the 1200 block of Argyle Street, so officers followed. Inside, they were met by the residents, who stated that they didn’t know the person who had entered and that children were sleeping in the house.
Officers subsequently found the man hiding in a bedroom with two kids inside.
The man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, flight from a peace officer and breaking and entering. He also was found to be wanted for robbery in Yorkton.
He made his first court appearance Monday.
