The RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina is to reopen Wednesday, albeit with some changes to its operation.
The centre closed in late March due to the provincial government’s public health orders regarding COVID-19.
When the centre reopens, all visitors will have to wear a mask at all times while they’re in the building. If they’re unable to bring a mask, one will be provided.
Patrons also will have to complete a questionnaire that contains personal contact information and questions regarding their personal health.
The centre will have a maximum capacity and will be staggering entry into the galleries to maintain physical distancing. Groups in the museum will be limited to a maximum of six people, and signs will be in place to maintain the direction of traffic inside the facility.
Admission to the centre will be by donation.
The centre is to be open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There won’t be any live events (such as the Sergeant Major’s Parade, the Sunset Retreat ceremonies or guided driving tours of the RCMP Academy), nor will there be any interactive exhibits inside the centre.
The centre’s galleries, gift shop and SGI Canada Theatre will be accessible, as will attractions outside such as the Pillars of the Force commemorative brick pathway, the Canada 150 floral monument, the Place of Reflection and the South Saskatchewan Lily Society lily garden.
Day camps for children are to be offered Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The camps have a maximum capacity of 30 people, including kids, their parents or chaperones, and the heritage centre’s staff.
The RCMP Heritage Centre also plans to continue delivering children’s programming through its Facebook page.
