The RCMP has started an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.
In a media release, the province’s Ministry of Corrections and Policing said the man was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday morning. He was declared dead at about 8 a.m.
The release said the death was not related to COVID-19, but didn’t provide any other details.
In addition to the Mounties, the Ministry of Corrections and Policing will be conducting an investigation. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service also has been called in.
The release said the man’s next of kin have been notified.
