A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Assiniboia, Gravelbourg and Coronach areas of Saskatchewan.
At about 3:15 p.m. Friday, Environment Canada upgraded a watch in the area to a warning.
“A rapidly developing thunderstorm near Big Beaver is moving northeastward at 30 km/h,” the alert said. “Nickel- to quarter-sized hail is possible, along with strong gusty winds and locally heavy downpours.”
Meanwhile, other areas of southern Saskatchewan — including Regina and Moose Jaw — remained under a severe thunderstorm watch.
The alert also covers areas around Estevan, Weyburn, Radville, Milestone, Fort Qu’Appelle, Indian Head, Lumsden, Pilot Butte, Pense, Central Butte and Craik.
As well, severe thunderstorm watches were issued mid-afternoon for areas around Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan, Foam Lake, Martensville, Warman, Rosthern, Delisle, Wakaw, Outlook, Watrous, Hanley, Imperial and Dinsmore.
