A waterpark on the water, ice cream, sun and sand — beachgoers are anticipating another fun weekend at Regina Beach.
Brothers Max and Joe Rodriguez say their favourite beach activity is visiting Aquatic Adventures, the beach’s “playground on the water.”
“It’s really fun. The cliff doesn’t look that high but it’s actually really high,” Max said.
“The cliff is about 10 feet high even though it looks like one metre and it’s very slippery and you can fall (off it) and make people laugh when you hit the ground,” Joe added.
Joe and Max speak from experience.
“Last time I was on, my brother fell on the ground,” Joe said. “I was laughing at him for almost an hour after.”
“I fell like, 50 times, at least,” Max said.
When they’re not climbing on the beach’s inflatable water structures, the boys like to grab ice cream with their mom.
Max’s favourite is a cyclone, while Joe prefers classic chocolate and vanilla.
“We’re trying to get the kids out of the house a little bit. It’s been a long five months and we still keep to our bubble a lot,” said Jody Rodriguez, Joe and Max’s mother. “Coming here is a nice break from the city.”
Gabby and Olivia Panio agree.
“It’s going to be nice out. We’re going to spend time with the family,” Gabby said.
The two girls planned to spend their day swimming, tanning and munching on snacks.
“I brought candy,” Gabby said. Olivia opted for fruit, instead.
But while many have been drawn to Regina Beach for some outdoor entertainment and a break from COVID-19 restrictions in the city, others are wary about those around them adhering to social-distancing requirements.
“That was one of the reasons why we did decide to come (early),” Jordan Alberton said.
Alberton and her husband took their two-year-old daughter to the beach to enjoy some time outside.
“We were hopeful that it would be empty like this in the morning, which is why we decided to do this,” Alberton said.
“We wanted to come out early so we could stay out here until about lunchtime.”
