While it didn’t cause any major damage, a thunderstorm Thursday night left quite an impression in Moose Jaw.
Pictures appear to show the markings of a lightning strike on a green at Lynbrook Golf Club.
While cleaning the course Friday, greens manager Owen Morhart stumbled upon the strike’s damage after noticing something strange.
“We were out (Friday) morning squeegeeing all the water off of the greens, and we just happened to notice that one doesn’t have any water on it. It was all black, so we went up and took a look,” he said.
It was certainly an interesting experience for him.
“I’ve seen pictures of lightning strikes before, but I’ve never seen one in real life until today. I’ve been here for 33 years … I’ve seen trees hit and even our sprinklers, but I’ve never seen (lightning) hit a green for no reason and do the nice little design,” he explained.
While Morhart will always have the pictures to remember the incident, he regrets he can’t preserve the scene in some better way.
“If I could cut out a chunk that big and keep it somewhere, that would be awesome,” he joked.
Luckily, nothing else was damaged on the course, except for the odd tree branch blown off.
