More details are emerging over the alleged abduction and near-Amber Alert in Unity on Tuesday evening, as RCMP laid charges against a father and brother connected to the incident.
RCMP said in a release Friday the situation began around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, when Unity RCMP received a report of an assault and potential parental abduction at a home in the town.
Police allege they discovered that three children were taken from their mother’s home by the children’s father and his brother in a truck that had left the area.
Several detachments in the area were alerted with a description of the truck, while RCMP prepared to issue an Amber Alert.
The truck was eventually located and stopped along Highway 4 south of Kyle, located about 200 kilometres south of Unity. The father and brother were arrested at the scene.
The three children were located safely around 10 p.m. at a home in Maidstone in the care of a woman.
RCMP said it wouldn’t provide the names of those charged “to protect the privacy and identities of the children involved.”
The father and brother are charged with break and enter, uttering threats, assault, possessing a firearm for a dangerous purpose and abduction.
The pair are set to make court appearances in Swift Current provincial court on Aug. 6 at 1:30 p.m.
