A traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway near Waldeck on the weekend led to the seizure of nearly 30 pounds of drugs.
According to the RCMP, an officer from the Swift Current Rural detachment stopped an SUV travelling east on the highway for an equipment violation Saturday at about 2 a.m.
After becoming suspicious, the officer began a drug trafficking and possession investigation. A search of the vehicle turned up two vacuum-sealed bags of methamphetamine weighing a total of about 17.6 pounds, five vacuum-sealed bags of fentanyl with a total weight of approximately 12.2 pounds, and $1,140 in cash.
The RCMP said the amount of meth seized would produce about 76,160 individual doses.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 30-year-old man from St. Andrews, Man., was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of currency obtained by crime.
Waldeck is about 20 kilometres east of Swift Current.
