Facility improvements coming for some parks in northern, central Sask.

Two weeks after announcing infrastructure changes for provincial parks in southern Saskatchewan, the government has revealed plans for improvements at parks in central and northern Saskatchewan.

In a media release Wednesday, the provincial government said it was putting more than $6.7 million into facility and infrastructure improvements in those areas.

Washrooms, docks, day-use facilities and signage already were being upgraded, but plans to make improvements before the 2021 camping season include:

• Replacing the campground service centre at Pike Lake Provincial Park;
• Water system upgrades at Meadow Lake Provincial Park;
• Boat launch upgrades at Great Blue Heron Provincial Park and Meadow Lake Provincial Park;
• Road improvements and electrical upgrades at Candle Lake Provincial Park; and,
• A sewage lagoon upgrade and expansion at Duck Mountain Provincial Park.

Upgrades that began in 2019-20 and now are complete include:

• A new visitor reception centre at Candle Lake Provincial Park;
• Campground electrical upgrades at Meadow Lake Provincial Park and Pike Lake Provincial Park;
• Trail system upgrades at Meadow Lake Provincial Park and Lac La Ronge Provincial Park;
• A new play structure with accessible features at Great Blue Heron Provincial Park;
• An upgrade to the water system at the Battlefords Provincial Park; and,
• A sewage lagoon upgrade at Lac La Ronge Provincial Park.
