Two people are facing charges after an incident involving a stolen vehicle turned into something of a standoff.
In a media release, the Regina Police Service said officers just after midnight Saturday saw a vehicle that previously had been reported stolen. It was heading north on Albert Street.
Police put down a spike belt but the vehicle continued north on Highway 6. The vehicle eventually lost two tires and went into the ditch.
Even though the vehicle wasn’t moving, the two occupants refused to get out. After two hours of negotiating, officers finally convinced a man and a woman to get out of the vehicle.
Police say the man “began to exhibit signs of a drug overdose,” so he was taken to hospital. When he got out of the hospital, he tried to run but was recaptured.
