It got a lot of attention on social media, but Regina drivers won’t have to deal with the new light at Broad Street and Eighth Avenue for long.
The City of Regina tweeted out a photo Wednesday showing a different-looking traffic light.
Have you seen this unusual looking traffic signal at Broad Street & 8th Avenue? Here is how it works: Top signal is red for both lanes, signals on the right are for the through lanes, signals on the left are for the left turn. #yqrtraffic #yqr pic.twitter.com/d5dYChEek4

While it garnered attention on social media, Mayor Michael Fougere says it’s only a temporary solution related to some underground work in the area which affected the stability of the light pole.
“It won’t last long because I think it’s fairly confusing to motorists and we want people to be safe when they drive,” he said. “It’s a temporary solution to a problem they should fix in the next couple of days.”
Fougere said drivers need to pay attention and realize where each light is located on the new design.
“This is a modification of lights that are vertical and not horizontal,” Fougere said.
