The Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating two deaths in the city, but neither of them is considered suspicious.
According to a police media release, one person was found dead near the Wascana Marina on Sunday. A second person was found dead Monday near a set of CP Rail tracks near Park Street.
The police provided details on both deaths in releases issued later Monday.
In the first case, officers were called Sunday just after 11:15 a.m., to an area along the north shore of Wascana Lake between the waterfall and the marina. A caller who was in a boat on the lake told police a person who wasn’t moving or responding was lying on the shore.
Upon arrival, officers found a man who subsequently was declared dead by paramedics.
The release said the coroner had ordered an autopsy but, based on early indications, the man’s death doesn’t appear to be criminal in nature.
The man has been identified, but police aren’t releasing his name. The man’s next of kin have been notified.
The coroners service will be continuing its investigation.
On Monday, just before 8 a.m., police were called to the area of Sixth Avenue and Park Street for a report of an unresponsive man just north of the CP railway tracks.
According to police, railway workers tried to wake the man, but could not. Police and EMS arrived and the man was pronounced dead.
The coroner has ordered an autopsy but preliminary investigation has determined it’s not a criminal matter.
The man has been identified and his next of kin have been notified. Police aren’t releasing his name.
