Two teens have been found guilty of sexual assault causing bodily harm for their roles in a gang rape in Regina in February of 2019.
The boys — one of whom is now 16 years old and one who’s now 17 — were convicted after a trial Tuesday. They’re to return to court Thursday to set a date for sentencing.
Other charges of child pornography and anal intercourse had been dropped previously.
Earlier this summer, a boy who’s now 15 years of age pleaded guilty to sexual assault causing bodily harm and was sentenced to 10 months in open custody. The Crown has appealed that sentence.
A boy now aged 14 who was convicted of sexual assault causing bodily harm after a trial in June has a sentencing hearing set for Oct. 15. A youth who’s now 18 also is awaiting sentencing for his role in the gang rape.
None of the accused can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
According to court documents filed during the 15-year-old’s sentencing, the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was invited to the house of one of the accused. When she got there, several young men were in the basement watching TV and playing video games.
Shortly after she arrived, one of the boys went to talk to the others, and then the girl’s ordeal began. She was held down on a bed in the basement and stripped, then sexually assaulted multiple times by at least five boys.
The five accused were arrested in the days following the incident.
