A longtime trustee from the Regina Public School Board is running for city council.
Three-term trustee Katherine Gagne announced in an email Tuesday night that she will run in Ward 9 in the upcoming municipal election.
Gagne wrote that in her time as a trustee and as chair of the school board, she learned how important it is for all levels of government to work together.
“In these unprecedented days, we need to ensure the people of Regina are supported by every level of government and that we put Regina people first,” Gagne wrote.
Last year, Gagne faced calls for her removal as chair of the school board after a motion related to Pride celebrations was defeated.
That motion called on the board to “recognize and support the celebration of Pride and fly the rainbow flag at our facilities each June.”
Following the motion’s defeat, Gagne was the subject of a petition demanding she apologize and resign as chair.
Gagne later apologized for allowing the motion to appear on the meeting agenda before trustees had a chance to fully understand it.
Jason Mancinelli currently represents Ward 9 on city council.
