The status of Canada West winter term sports remains up in the air.
The university athletic conference – which both the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan are members of – announced it is delaying the decision on sports returning until no later than Nov. 2. The original deadline was Oct. 8.
In a news release, Canada West said the board of directors voted earlier this week to delay the decision following feedback from student-athletes. The decision was made to allow “as much time as possible to assess the feasibility of conference play returning given the evolving COVID-19 environment.”
Basketball (men’s and women’s), hockey (men’s and women’s), volleyball (men’s and women’s), rugby 7s (women’s) are the sports affected. It also affects the Canada West championships in curling (men’s and women’s), swimming (men’s and women’s), track and field (men’s and women’s), and wrestling (men’s and women’s).
Canada West cancelled all fall term competition back in June.
