The National Football League is officially in the territory where you should cross your fingers, cringe and pray.
It’s like the moment right before you see something unfortunate happen, like when someone blew through a red light on me this weekend and I hit the breaks and cringed as the other car whistled by my front bumper.
The NFL is hoping for the same result, that it will be no worse for wear. But the league is inches away from disaster.
It’s reckless that the league is going ahead with a rescheduled game two days after the New England Patriots’ Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19.
The Tennessee Titans had eight people test positive, then as the days have progressed, more and more tested positive. Those same players and staff were testing negative after the original outbreak but two and three days later, they were positive.
There is no guarantee Patriots players won’t have the same delayed results.
Instead of taking a safer approach, the NFL is charging ahead, again showing player safety appears to be the least of its concern.
