People who missed out on registering for the City of Regina’s fall leisure activities will still get an opportunity to take part in some fall programming.
The city’s late fall leisure guide has been put out and registration for activities included in it starts Tuesday at 7 a.m.
“We are releasing two to allow us to create modified programs and adjust our programming in response to COVID-19. People will notice that some of the programs have changed,” said Bobbie Selinger, the manager of community and recreation programs with the City of Regina.
“However, especially with this second release, they will see more of the programs that they’re typically used to seeing.”
The city says the two fall guides were created to ensure the maximum number of programs could be available while still adhering to Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 restrictions. This includes physical distancing and single-use items.
This does mean there will still be a reduced number of classes and participants in them.
“We’ve had to ensure there was the ability to have physical distancing within the space. There are some classes that we’ve had to make modifications within the specific class,” Selinger said.
“It has meant that we have required changes and looking at our programming differently and looking at how we deliver those programs. In most cases we have been able to make those modifications successfully and deliver the program in a safe way that residents have come to expect from the city.”
Programs like family swim lessons and aquatic exercise classes aimed at people with chronic joint pain will be made available.
Selinger said since the city already had registration for fall programming in August, it doesn’t expect to have the same number of people calling in as would during a normal year.
“This session does have a number of new swimming lessons — that is our most popular program. There will be a number of calls but it will be not as busy as people are seeing on a fall registration day,” Selinger said.
There will be more than 400 more programs running Oct. 26 to Dec. 31. People can register for programs online or by calling 306-777-7529. Non-Regina residents can register starting Thursday.
