10:00 – While Saskatchewan has been able to avoid the massive surges in COVID-19 cases we’ve seen in other parts of the country and world, Quebec continues to struggle as the hotspot for the virus in Canada. Of the nation’s 162,000 cases, more than 76,000 have been in Quebec and the province had days with more than 1,000 new cases last week. Montreal-based Globe and Mail reporter Lex Perreaux has been keeping us updated on the battle against COVID-19 in that province, and he joins Gormley with the latest.
LIVE: Les Perreaux, Globe and Mail reporter in Montreal.
11:00 – Berkeley, California is aiming to ban junk food and unhealthy items at grocery store checkout lines, where many shoppers impulsively purchase unhealthy snack foods like candy or chocolate. Under the new rules, grocery stores larger than 2,500 square feet will not be able to sell chips, candy bars, soda and sweetened beverages, allowing only food items with less than 5g of added sugar or 250mg of sodium per serving. Do your impulse purchases hurt your health in the long-term? Would you support similar rules in Saskatchewan? Give John a call at 1-877-332-8255 and let him know!
12:00 – Canada’s Legions are facing some hard times. Membership has been a challenge for a long while, and COVID-19 has left many Legions struggling financially. The Nutana Legion #262 was closed for three months while still paying overhead for their building and losing the opportunity to rent out their hall for events. President Bill Flahr joins Gormley to discuss the challenges legions are dealing with, and some of the creative fundraisers they’ve been running to try and gain some revenue.
